This week we had quite a challenge in the kitchen, our very first 3d cake !  We've created so many shaped and novelty cakes in the past but never a fully 3d cake.  A challenge yes, a pleasure yes !  As cake designers, whilst we love creating all sorts of designs, some simple, some not so much, a structurally challenging cake is a fantastic opportunity to push ourselves and experiment with new ideas and see what we can create.  Hope you like it, we did and again, a cake we didn't want to leave us - Rebecca . . . with love xx

It's that time of week when we get up early (no earlier than that !!) and bake cupcakes galore to fill our shop with that freshly baked cakes smell no one can resist.  Our flavours tomorrow are Vanilla, Raspberry Ripple, Butterscotch, Mocha, Chocolate Heaven and Flavour of the Week . . . We're really excited to announce we've moved into our very first shop.  We're now located at 29 Bridge Street, Polesworth in Tamworth.  We've not moved far, infact we're still just off the B5000 so still really easy to find and we're now able to offer a lot more to our customers and hopefully make it easy to get all your partywear too from one place.  A big step and very nerve wracking but we're looking forward to the challenge and can't wait to see you soon - Rebecca . . . with love xx

For my daughters party this year, we chose Ash End House Farm in Middleton.  What a fabulous place, along with her little friends, she fed the goats and the sheep, sang Happy Hatch Day to the newly hatched chicks and had a sit on a pony.  After a rather excited play on the fantastic outdoor play with tractors and bouncy cushion we all had a lovely lunch in the barn, heated my a real log fire.  It was a really nice morning and for her cake, but what else for a party on Halloween - Rebecca . . . with love xx

We had a fantastic day at the Ramada Birmingham North for our very first wedding fayre.  We had a great response and took loads of enquiries for 2011/2012.  It was a really nice day and we met some lovely people.  We took a tower of cupcakes which we sold later in the day to raise money for the Injured Servicemen at Selly Oak and raised £70 !!  We'll be there again in January with some new cakes on display, some more yummy cupcakes, we'll be looking forward to seeing you - Rebecca . . . with love xx

When Colleen asked me to create a cake for her bestest friend Anna aka 'Princess Bird', we talked about a pretty princess cake with tiara and magic wand but then Colleen aka 'Princess Minnie' mentioned there adorable pet names for each other and I just couldn't get Big Bird out of my head.  Anna we knew would love the idea and see the funny side and so a cake was born, Big Bird with Princess Bird sash and pinked up just for Princess Anna.  Happy 30th Anna, we hope you loved your cakes - Rebecca . . . with love xx

I was so excited when I was asked to create this cake.  Toy of the Year in 1980, us kids couldn't wait to get our hands on one of these.  A real iconic toy from my childhood and a source of complete frustration.  Didn't we all peel the stickers off to try and solve the puzzle leaving it nearly all completely black as stick back on they didn't !  How funny.  Well the cake looked stunning and I had to really resist trying to turn the layers to rearrange all the colours - Rebecca . . . with love xx

Standing infront of a stacked three tier cake looking at a photo of what the cake should look like, and then looking at your little handmade roses and leaves, you just hope you can do it justice.  Rarely am I 100% happy with my creations, as a perfectionist it's the little flaws or imperfections I see (which no-one else can!) but this time . . . . nothing!  I am 100% happy with this.  An exquisitely gorgeous wedding cake I'm sure you'll agree - Rebecca . . . with love xx

Here at Cakes by Rebecca we're really getting into the celebrations.  We created this cake yesterday for a gentleman who collects war medals and on Friday we've a three tier wedding cake for a couple getting married on St Georges Day, how cool !  Any guesses as to the theme of the cake ?!  Not hard really I guess, just red and white.  Very patriotic and perfect for an extra special celebration.  Hope you all have a wonderful St Georges Day wherever you may be - Rebecca . . . with love xx

It was my grandparents Diamond Wedding Anniversary on April Fools Day and we celebrated on Saturday with a big family party, and guess what, I did a cake !  My Nan had been given a gorgeous Diamond ring for the occasion and so with this theme too I went for a cushion shaped cake with a gorgeous 'diamond' ring to finish.  Very simple but so stunning - Rebecca . . . with love xx

I had a really lovely cake to do this week, my wonderful sister celebrated her 40th birthday.  Lisa is a huge Audrey Hepburn fan with memoribilia of Audrey all around her home.  I wanted to create a really personal cake for her, so having found a gorgeous picture of Audrey I then managed to find a fabulous quote of hers and before long a cake was created which was completely unique for her.  Happy 40th Birthday Lisa - Rebecca . . . with love xx

 

Well it's Day 3 of the New Year and I've already failed in one of my resolutions which was to eat less cake !  I can't help it, it's so delicious . . . . . but I do have a very good excuse this time (really !), I'm trying to develop a range of gluten free cakes and I've baked today a delicious gluten free chocolate cake.  It tastes divine, it's moist, rich and completely indulgent.  But whilst it ticks all the boxes for taste, sadly it's a little wonky for covering.  Never mind, I'll continue the research and in the meantime, the new year resolution will just have to wait - Rebecca . . . with love xx

It's fairly quiet this week in the kitchen, we've a few christmas cakes and a lovely engagement cake this week, so I shall be taking the opportunity to make some gorgeous mince pies to enjoy over the festive season.  Drizzled with a little brandy before baking and they are completey irresistible.  However, today I am helping my 80 year old dear Nan to decorate her christmas cake, she's baked and marzipanned it and we're going to cover and decorate today.  Well with a kitchen full of cutters, embossers, glitter and colours she'll have the best decorated Christmas cake this side of Lapland.  Well, I'm not sure if I'll post again in 2009, so if not I wish you all a fabulous Christmas and a fantastic New Year - Rebecca . . . with love xx

Been a little while since my last 'Blog' and hasn't it gotten cold outside !  It felt really christmassy too for us last week - we were really pleased to support one of our local schools with their winter fete and there was a fantastic turn out.  We did a 'Guess the weight of the Christmas Cake', which someone asked to just buy it there and then !  We also baked and sold a load of cupcakes but clearly we underestimated their popularity (if we do say so ourselves, they are fantastic!) we were sold out within minutes, not sure who loved them more, moms or kids, but next year we will have boxes and boxes, so enough for everyone !  And well done Rachel for winning the Christmas cake - Rebecca . . . with love xx

I absolutely adored doing this cake, being given a basic theme and being allowed to be creative is what I love and this little bear melted my heart, I didn't want him to leave.   Me to You bears are perfect for theming to create a really unique and personal cake for someone.  The blackboard on the back of the cake read 'Quiet!  Exams in progress' . . . just adorable - Rebecca . . .with love xx

Has everyone had a Happy Halloweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen ?!  We've had a very special week.  First my son became a teenager . . . as a huge rugby fan I created his favourite team logo for his cake, then it was out for pizza with his pals, and today . . . yes on Halloween . . . my little devil turned 5 . . so we've had a tea party with pass the parcel . . . what fun !  Phew, that's their birthdays done for another year !  But we've still found time to create some great cakes this week and the Haunted Castle cake was such fun to make, spooky eyes and scary hands finishing the look.  Hope you like this weeks cakes, off to light my pumpkin now ! - Rebecca . . . with love xx

A little while ago I had a lady call me desperately seeking cake.  Fresh back from a trip to New York she was yearning for a taste of Manhattan.  Red Velvet Cake.  A cake Manhattans queued for it was that good she said.  If I could make it like she remembered 'name your price'.  I've finally gotten round to making it today . . . she wasn't wrong.  My 13 year old son has offered me his birthday money for the rest of it !  It really is that good ladies and gentlemen.  Take it to friends for dessert, give it to someone special or save it all for yourself but please. . . order one. . . it's a little slice of heaven on a plate - Rebecca . . . with love x x

Red Velvet Cake - A History

Some of you have already seen my lovely little car and told me how fab you think it looks, for those of you that haven't yet seen me tootling around, I've now got 'Cakes by Rebecca' in pink, all down the sides of the car with some lovely cupcakes to finish, it's very noticeable !  I love it.  So if you see me out and about, give me a toot toot........ and if you see me driving as slow as a snail .......there's a cake or two on board ! - Rebecca ...with love xx

We created a cake this week which was specially commissioned for a young lady who was to become a teenager.  After considering lots of themes, mom decided that as fashion was probably the theme, could we create a cake based around her favourite clothing designer Ed Hardy.  Something completely different, unique and with a bit of bling !  We loved it, let's hope Lashai loved it too,  Happy Birthday Lashai - Rebecca . . . with love xx

I was extremely privileged and hugely excited to be asked a few weeks ago to create my very first birthday cake for a 100 year old!  Hilda turned 100 this year and has always had cats so we created her cakes with the cat theme and with lots of fruit cake to enjoy with her friends and family.  Thank you Lesley for allowing me this honour and her 101st birthday cake is on us !  See you next year Hilda ! - Rebecca . . . with love x x

Bolehall Manor celebrate their 70th birthday this week and I was kindly asked to create a cake to mark the occasion.  The clubs recently refurbished and it's fabulous in there !  Glenda loved the cake and cupcakes and they all sang happy birthday to the club on saturday night ... In May I was asked to deliver a cake to County Durham (Chanel Sweetie!), so we decided to stay over in the Yorkshire Dales on the way back rather than a complete day of driving.  We found a fabulous B&B run by Steve and Julie and their two dogs Freddie & Jimmy, we loved it so much there we booked one of their self contained cottages and spent last week there with the kids.  How fantastic !  The scenery is outstanding, the cottage is beautiful and relaxing and Steve & Julie are two warm and welcoming hosts.  If you fancy some time in that area we would all highly recommend this place as a great base to explore and visit some of the most wonderful places ....
